When we started Qubo almost 5 years ago, we got a lot of good advice regarding the risks of doing a consumer tech, hardware centric startup. It ranged from “it’s too hard” to “can’t be done in india” to simply “why?”And the advice was quite right. On our first attempt (after 2 years of effort), we failed … quite spectacularly. The first product launched had product- market fit and other issues. But, we stuck to our belief that we can build globally competitive products from India. That the fact that while it’s hard to compete in hardware alone, products made on the combination of hardware, software and AI skills available in India can compete with imports from China. That investments in building and owning core tech will yield superior customer experiences. Good to see that now we are getting recognised for doing something interesting. Still early days (and lots of things to fix), but today we have over 30 SKUs in market and have now shipped nearly 500,000 total devices till date. Last month alone we sold 40,000 devices for over 15cr in GMV! Importantly reached market leadership in many of the smart devices categories we play in.
